Frequently asked questions

Does My Essay Buddy write my essay for me?
No — and it never will. The outline generator produces structure (headings, guiding questions, sub-points), not drafted paragraphs. The writing coach only ever suggests short phrase-level edits or points out issues descriptively; it can't rewrite a paragraph for you.
Where do the research sources come from?
A mix of live web search and academic databases — Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, CrossRef, and Open Library for books. Each source is scored for credibility (peer-reviewed, .edu/.gov, journalism, book, or blog) and comes with a ready-made citation in your project's chosen style.
Can I edit the outline after it's generated?
Yes — rename headings, reorder sections by dragging, and delete ones you don't need.
What citation styles are supported?
15 built-in styles — APA, MLA, both Chicago variants, Harvard, IEEE, Vancouver, AMA, ASA, CSE, Turabian, OSCOLA, Bluebook, ACS, and AIP — or build your own custom format. One style applies to every source in a project.
Is there a free plan?
Yes — the Basic plan is free and includes one active project so you can try the full workflow before upgrading.
Can I use this for group projects?
Yes — share a project by code and collaborators can co-edit the manuscript together in real time, like a shared doc. You control what each person can do: view, edit, or admin.
