Our commitment to academic integrity

My Essay Buddy is built to help you think, plan, and revise — not to write your essay for you. That's not a marketing line. It's a set of concrete constraints baked into every feature.

Outlines are structure, not sentences

The outline generator is instructed — at the system level, not just by convention — to produce headings, guiding questions, and sub-points only. It is explicitly forbidden from drafting essay prose. You get scaffolding to think with, not paragraphs to copy.

Writing feedback is phrase-level or descriptive, never a rewrite

The writing coach can suggest a short phrase-level fix (tightening a wordy sentence, flagging passive voice) or point out a structural issue (a missing topic sentence) descriptively, with no text to paste in. It cannot rewrite a paragraph, and there is no "regenerate this section" button anywhere in the product. If you ask it to rewrite something wholesale, it's designed to refuse and offer targeted feedback instead.

Sourcing is transparent

Every source the research assistant surfaces comes with a credibility rationale and a real citation in your project's chosen style (APA, MLA, Chicago, and a dozen others are built in), so you can verify it yourself before you rely on it. We'd rather show you fewer, verifiable sources than a longer list you have to take on faith.

The rules, as enforced in the software

These aren't guidelines the AI is asked to follow — they're how the product is built, and instructors are welcome to review the prompts under NDA.

  1. No feature asks the AI model for essay prose. There is no "write", "draft", "continue", or "regenerate" path anywhere.
  2. The only suggestions that can be applied with one click are spelling and grammar corrections to a word or phrase. Style feedback is descriptive and must be acted on by the student.
  3. Every answer, summary, brief, flashcard, quiz and lesson is generated only from the student's own kept sources and uploaded notes, and says so when it can't answer from them.
  4. Writing lessons quote the student's own sentences to point out a pattern but never rewrite them; practice exercises use unrelated, invented sentences.
  5. The project keeps a record of what the AI returned — suggestions, checks, sources — so a student can show their process if asked.

For instructors: a statement you can paste into a syllabus

Instructor accounts are free (request one from Account settings). If you want to permit the tool explicitly, this wording matches what it does:

Students may use My Essay Buddy (myessaybuddy.com) for this course. It assists with outlining, finding and citing sources, checking grammar, and reviewing a draft for clarity and factual support against the student's own sources. It does not and cannot generate essay text. All submitted writing must be the student's own; use of any tool that generates prose remains prohibited under this course's academic integrity policy.

You are still responsible

Using My Essay Buddy doesn't automatically satisfy your school or instructor's policy on AI use — those vary widely and change often. Check your institution's current academic integrity policy and, when in doubt, ask your instructor whether outline and research assistance tools are permitted for a given assignment. This product is a study aid, not a guarantee of compliance.
